South Central INSIGHT Programme (SCIP) – funded by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
The South Central INSIGHT Programme (SCIP), funded by NIHR is accepting applications from individuals wishing to commence their MRes (Science and Health) studies in the 2025/26 academic year.
The 1024ºË¹¤³§ is part of NIHR SCIP, which is led by University of Southampton and Oxford Brookes University alongside 1024ºË¹¤³§, University of Winchester and Southampton Solent University.
SCIP is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, through NIHR, with the aim of inspiring students into Research inclusive careers. Funded places to study on Masters in Research studentships, for individuals applying to each of the five Universities, will be competitively awarded over the next two years. Additional stipend funding is also included within the award.
Funding information and eligibility
The aim of NIHR SCIP is to excite, inspire, and activate a diverse range of soon-to-qualify or newly qualified health and social care professionals to include research within their career.
Students from registered healthcare, social work and public health professions at an early stage in their career are eligible to apply. This includes undergraduate or postgraduate students and early career professionals on the following regulatory bodies (not including doctors or dentists):
- Academy for Healthcare Science
- General Chiropractic Council
- General Dental Council
- General Medical Council
- General Optical Council
- General Osteopathic Council
- General Pharmaceutical Council
- Health and Care Professions Council
- Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Social Work England
- UK Public Health Register
The studentships cover 1024ºË¹¤³§ MRes (Science and Health) full time or part time tuition fees and an annual full time or part time stipend, based upon UKRI rate (may be subject to change).​â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹
Entry requirements and selection process
Qualifications or experience
- A second-class honours degree in a relevant subject.
English language requirements
- English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0.
Selection process
- All applicants will be invited to attend an interview for their place to study at 1024ºË¹¤³§.

Applications to the programme open on 3 February 2025 and close on 7 April 2025.
The 7 April 2025 application deadline is for both SCIP programme funding and the 1024ºË¹¤³§ MRes (Science and Health) course.
