Dr Marta Roldo, Reader (Associate Professor) in Biomaterials in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, has recently been awarded a from the (IAAM).
The IAAM Scientist Medal recognises researchers who have made a significant contribution to advancing the field of material science, engineering, and technology. The association confers this award to motivate and inspire academics to continue to deliver scientific excellence.
This international recognition reaffirms the value of my work in developing sustainable biomaterials for biomedical applications and gives me the confidence to continue pursuing this field of research in collaboration with international colleagues.
Dr Marta Roldo, Reader (Associate Professor) in Biomaterials
In recognition of the award, Dr Roldo delivered the IAAM Scientist Medal lecture entitled 鈥淐hitosan Potential in Biomedicals鈥 at the 54th Assembly of the Advanced Materials Congress and has since been admitted as a Fellow of the IAAM. Her presentation explored the work she has carried out over the last decade using chitosan, a sustainable natural polymer obtained from seafood waste, for applications such as drug delivery, tissue engineering and antibacterial formulations to combat implant-related infections and dental caries (also known as tooth decay or dental cavities).
Dr Roldo said: 鈥淚 am honoured to have been awarded the Scientist Medal.
