This means we’re now the highest-ranked university in our region and one of the best in the UK for work experience opportunities - as rated by our own students. This achievement reflects our dedication to preparing students for successful careers.

Work placements make a real difference - students who complete a placement are more likely to secure a professional job after graduation and earn £4,500 on average more per year than those who don’t. Our ranking reflects the excellent support and opportunities we provide to help students gain valuable real-world experience.

Our Commitment to Student Success

Real-world experience is just as important as academic learning. That’s why we’ve worked hard to enhance career support, industry connections, and hands-on opportunities through events and initiatives such as our Changemaker Challenges and Career Readiness and Employability Days (CRED). This ranking celebrates our commitment to helping students gain practical skills, build confidence, and start their careers.

  • Practical Learning: Many of our courses integrate work experience, ensuring students graduate with relevant skills and real-world knowledge.

Placement Support in Numbers

  • 92 students have attended our Placement Club since December 2024, gaining peer support and expert guidance.
  • 910 Placement Appointments have taken place since September 2024, with 108 drop-in sessions since January 2025.

Completing a placement isn’t just a great experience—it makes a real difference to career prospects.

For students who haven't done a placement, 69.9% are in professional employment after graduation, 93.3% are in work or further study, and their average salary is £25,755. 

For students who have done a placement, 85.5% are in professional employment after graduation, 98% are in work or further study, and their average salary is £30, 256.

I couldn’t recommend doing a placement year enough, especially for those thinking of entering a fast-paced industry like fashion. It’s been such an amazing learning experience, and I continue to develop new skills that will help me in my final year of studies and future career.
