Biography

My studies and research are within the fields of postcolonial and North American writing. Having focussed my undergraduate studies on American literature, I specialised in Canadian women's writing for my MA and then multi-ethnic women's writing for my Phd. I had taught at the University of Kent and the University of Antwerp before coming to 1024ºË¹¤³§. I have also worked for Wasafiri (the journal for international contemporary writing) and the European Commission. I have published on magical realism, Indian women's writing in English, African American women's writing, Asian American writing, and Native American writing. I have a particular interest in the intersections of narrative form, ritualistic and political aspects of literature.

Research interests

My specialism is the field of multi-ethnic, cross-cultural and transnational writing of North America and Britain with a particular focus on narrative strategies. I have published articles on African American writing, Native American writing and comparative studies of Asian diasporic literature in America, Canada and Britain. I am the author of Routledge’s New Critical Idiom volume Magic(al) Realism and a co-editor of the multi-lingual postcolonial volume Convergences and Interferences. I am currently working on the link between Native American writing, legal discourse and orality. I am a founding member of the 'Imaginary Europes' research group, investigating European ideologies from non-European perspectives. I am also developing ideas concerning magical realism and the physical arts.
