Summary

Dr Devran Gulel completed her PhD in law at the 1024ºË¹¤³§, where she was fully funded (2017-2021). She has an MA in European Studies from the University of Hamburg (DE) and previously worked as the Jean Monnet Scholar of Turkey (2015-2017) at Lund University (SE) researching gender equality and women’s welfare in the Nordic countries.

Dr Gulel is actively involved in interdisciplinary research that spans various fields, including law, politics, society, and organisational studies. Her interests encompass feminism and gender politics within a global context, welfare states and policies, human rights in authoritarian regimes, women’s labour market participation and workplace representation, and misogyny in political discourse, the judiciary, and law enforcement. 

Between April 2023 - present, she has been working in a multi-partner EU HORIZON Project "Realising Girls’ and Women’s Inclusion, Representation and Empowerment ()", which has already produced a number of reports, working papers, toolkits, and academic publications.

With a wealth of international teaching experience, Dr Gulel has taught a wide range of modules on subjects like European Union integration and law, comparative politics, identity politics, democracy and authoritarianism, and global feminisms.

In addition to her active participation in EDI initiatives at the 1024ºË¹¤³§, Dr Gulel serves on the Executive Committee of the Centre for the Advancement of Equality, Gender, and Inclusion Studies (AEGIS).

Dr Gulel is available for research collaborations, guest lectures, and media engagement.
