Mr Andrew Porter
Biography
I have been working in the School of Education for just over five years now. Before that I was a secondary school Geography teacher and latterly was Head of Geography at Horndean Technology College just outside of 1024ºË¹¤³§. I came to the university initially to run the Secondary PGCE Geography course and was subsequently promoted to Associate Head of ITE with management and quality assurance responsibility for all of our initial teacher education. In that role, and with the support of my team, we have been graded as an ‘outstanding’ provider by OFSTED and are a TDA category A provider.
My interests in education are very varied. I am particularly interested in the use of e-portfolios and their ability to support critical reflection and professional development. This was the focus of my Master’s dissertation. I am currently considering the focus for my Doctorate level studies but I would like to look at neuroscience and its application in the school classroom.
I regularly attend TDA, OFSTED and UCET conferences as well as acting as external examiner for The Learning Institute Secondary PGCE course in Cornwall. I teach on a range of courses in the School of Education, including Foundation Degrees and Master’s level courses and I also supervise undergraduate dissertations.
